The Thanksgiving Play – Rehearsals Commence!

The cast has assembled, and rehearsals have begun for the fall 2024 Social Justice Theatre

production of The Thanksgiving Play by Larissa FastHorse. The show is a satirical comedy that revolves around four white individuals attempting to create a politically correct pageant to celebrate both Turkey Day and Native American Heritage Month.

FastHorse, the playwright, is the first Native American woman known to have a play produced on Broadway. The play exposes the way history has been and continues to be told, even by well-meaning people, in ways that perpetuate a false narrative. According to a 2023 New York Times review of The Thanksgiving Play, FastHorse creates an “hilarious envelope in which she delivers a brutal satire about mythmaking.”

The cast of four includes three veterans of the SJT stage and one newcomer. Social Justice

Theatre is pleased to welcome back Amber Frederick, Shealyn Salgado and Jacob Huttner who have each played various roles in previous SJT productions. Joining them in the cast of The Thanksgiving Play is Jonathan Brandt, a veteran of professional and community theatre in New York, the Twin Cities and Mankato.

The Thanksgiving Play will be presented Thursday through Saturday, September 26, 27 and 28. The production of this play is made possible by a grant from the Centenary Board of Trustees.
