2018 – July 29, 10:00 AM Worship

Date: August 4, 2018

Summary

As we conclude our Under Construction Sermon Series, we circle around again to the theme of how the church community is built. The only time the word “church” is used in the Gospel is in this story we hear Sunday, where Jesus tells Peter he is the rock (petros) on which the church will be built. You all know I love the metaphor of rocks, so it will be fun to explore this idea, how Peter shapes the church, and how we participate in building the church.

We hope to be at Sibley Park for Worship in the Park at 10:45 a.m. Meet at the shelter nearest the bandshell, bring a chair and dessert, and let’s be the church in the beautiful outdoors. A catered meal will be served following the service – this is a gift from the Mary Just fund, and July 29 is her birthday which is fitting.

If it rains we will worship at 10:45 a.m. in the Heritage Room then vacate that room to another location in the church for our lunch. We will still have a delightful time together.

Update on worship times for fall: this week the Ad Council met to evaluate the summer move to one service and, after studying feedback and discussing options, decided to move to one worship service year round. Beginning September 9 the Sunday morning schedule will be 9 a.m.education for all ages (the coffee pot will be on), 10:00 a.m. worship, and 11:00 a.m. fellowship. This move will allow us to offer high quality worship, education, and fellowship on Sunday mornings and on Wednesday nights (as we add a 6:00 p.m.worship service to that schedule.)

Until Sunday
