Our men find meaningful ministry serving as choir members, greeters, ushers, coffee hosts, sound booth technicians, lay readers, and much more – and that’s just on Sunday mornings!
Follow a United Methodist Man through a day, and you’ll find him active in God’s ministry both at work, and in his free time. He is busy: City Government; campus life; delivering hot meals to shut-ins or other VINE service; singing with Summit Singers, Minnesota Valley Choral or Riverblenders; clearing snow off a neighbor’s walk or mowing the neighbor’s lawn; leading in Scouting or at the Y; snapping photos or catching the details at the scene for a Free Press Feature; and finishing off the evening winning a softball game for the Centenary team. Meanwhile, he’s been faithful to his family and to his other jobs.
If you haven’t found your place in our network of ministry, here are a few places to get started
· Centenary Men take a day each summer to work on a Habitat for Humanity House. Other volunteers are needed all year round either for construction, committee work or do retail at the Re-Store. Bob Peterson represents us in HforH work.
· The UMCOR Disaster Relief Team is trained and ready to respond at the Bishop’s request. Gary Lundin can tell you where to start.
· Centenary has a long history with Partners for Affordable Housing. This agency coordinates the Welcome Inn Emergency Shelter, Theresa House, and many assisted rent housing sites. Volunteers are needed on the Board ( Marge Jensen and Doris Gastiero serve on the Board), teaching basic skills to first-time renters, and tending to aging properties.
· Mankato Area Fair Trade Initiative needs volunteers to move us forward into becoming a Fair Trade Town. Ask Paul Renshaw how to help.
· Cooking and serving for the Salvation Army meals (see George Rago) or taking your turn helping with Sunday coffee or Wednesday night Supper, or coordinating the Father’s Day picnic.
· Friday Morning Men’s Study meets at 7 am for coffee and discussion.
· The Sanctuary Choir always needs tenors and basses. Talk to Jim Williams. They rehearse each Wednesday night after supper.
If we haven’t named that right ministry yet, you may need to sit down with Pastor Dean for coffee and discuss this further. Or tap the insights of any UMMan and you’ll be on your way in a ministry that suits your interests and abilities.
