AT CENTENARY WE CELEBRATE EARTH DAY
EVERY DAY
We are collecting
Household batteries, both rechargeable and non-rechargeable, such as
D-cell, C-cell, AA, AAA, 9-volt, and button cells
Rechargeable battery packs from:
Cell phones, cameras, laptop computers, power tools, etc.
Handheld electronics:
Cell phones, iPods, PDAs, pagers, and so on
Any other dry-cell batteries
We are Not collecting light bulbs & we are Not collecting reading glasses.
We are working with Battery Solutions to reduce landfill costs, and reclaim the minerals for use.
We are collecting aluminum cans. Redemption helps off-set the cost of battery reclamation.
What to do with prescriptions and medications.
When medications are past their date and when prescriptions are un-used, they are a hazard to keep around, and a hazard to our water system if just flushed down the toilet. Current best practice recommendation:
1. Seal the container tightly.
2. Wrap the container with duct tape, or some other opaque material. (the thought here is to disguise the product so no one going through trash is attracted to it.)
3. Discard with your trash. (in most cases, our trash is incinerated.)
We are asking our friends to be more careful with sharps. We are reviewing our policy in our building regarding sharps.
