Centenary United Methodist Church
Home  How to Serve  Prayer Requests  Chance to Give Greening

There are many ways each of us can help better the lives and conditions of others whether close to home or on the opposite side of the earth.  Centenary works through the missions of the United Methodist Church to respond to needs wherever they may arise.

Each week, Centenary receives an offering for a mission project as chosen by the Outreach Committee.  For example, during the month of April...

April 4    PEOPLE IN NEED

As a downtown church, Centenary provides a ministry among the disadvantaged who drop in for assistance with rent, utilities, food, prescriptions, and much, much more.  Your gift is more than the groceries it buys or the emergency it prevents.  Your gift allows the pastoral staff to meet each person-in-need with encouragement and hope.

April 11    ETHEOPIAN ORPHANAGE

This Sunday we baptize our most recent child adopted from Ethiopia.  In gratitude for the hope they provide to parents and children, we have chosen this orphanage for our giving.  Join your gift with a prayer for children around the globe.

April 18     KIDS AGAINST HUNGER

Right here in Mankato the Kids Against Hunger shop purchases raw materials, bags them into meals for four packets, and ships them to where they are most desperately needed.  Your gift will purchase the rice, soy protein, dried vegetables and seasoning to be packaged and ready to be shipped for the next crisis.

April 25      FAIR TRADE

Centenary has joined forces with the Mankato Area Fair Trade Town Initiative to promote access to fair trade products.  We sell Fair Trade coffee & other supplies, and we serve only Fair Trade coffee at Centenary events.  Our participation guarantees preservation of song birds, communities, and landscapes – and some fine coffee!  Fair Trade T-shirts will be available for sale.

Additionally, there are other fine organizations constantly involved in improving the circumstances our brothers and sisters confront.

Here are a few links that will lead you to such opportunities.  Some are officially affiliated with the United Methodist Church, others are not.

The United Methodist Church has a long tradition of reaching out to those in need.  Coordinating much of that work is United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).  Whether it's assisting with hurricane and flood relief, or dealing with unexpected human tragedy resulting from food shortages, UMCOR is there.  Read about UMCOR at its website.

This site will speak for itself.  Everyday millions of children and adults are potential malaria victims.  Here's a vehicle for all of us to help.

You've probably heard about the micro-financing movement that is having a dramatic impact upon people in the developing world.  Here is an opportunity to make a major difference in the live's of people around the world...people seeking a small amount of help to change the future for themselves and their families.
